I remember watching Oprah discuss Virgin Remy Indian Hair. I dug up a video to share with you that shows Oprah discussing with a documentary maker where the hair in India comes from and the true story behind it. The revelations are just fascinating. I watched the whole show when it broadcasted but thought ‘Hey why not share this lovely video with the blog readers’
It also happens that Chris Rock is involved in the making of a documentary on where all the hair weaves come from. I cracked up at his comment that the people in india are so poor “I don’t think they know they are walking with $1,000 on their heads”

In this video I like how the Indian woman who has just gotten her head shaved asks why anyone else would buy them…Did they not have their own hair… It is with such true humility that she says “God can do whatever He wants with it (the donated hair)”
Turns out only 25% of the hair come from women who sacrifice it to the gods at the temples. This is live hair and much much more valuble while the remaining 75% from women who sell their hair. This is known as the dead market, where they collect collect all the hair that is accumulated on their combs and then sorted out. This type of hair doesn’t have the full cuticles so is not valuable
